The Heat is On

I know I shouldn't complain. Really I do. And yet, I will.

Yesterday the temperature reached the upper 80s. Today we're going to hit 90.

Degrees Fahrenheit.

Dear Capricious Weather Deities,

Perhaps you haven't noticed the date, but this weekend is Memorial Day in the Pacific Northwest. Traditionally, on this weekend, you provide us with rain and 50ish degrees, ruining any and all camping plans. Sometimes you bless us with 60s and sunbreaks. Every so often you look on us with great favour and give 70s and clear skies. All of these are acceptable, O Great Ones.

So I have a question as we swelter in our non-air-conditioned homes while the bright orb shines down mercilessly causing our eyes to burn and our throats to parch... have we done something horrific to offend you, or are you simply having a great laugh at our expense? If the former, what can we do to atone? If the latter... ha fucking ha.

Love you. Mean it.

Signed,
Suffering in Seattle

Recall that fine weather that you so loved this past January and February. Payback is a be-otch. ;)

Ruh-roh, Rorge...

I think you've got Memorial Day confused with the Fourth of July - isn't that supposed to be the rainy one?

JBo- I was thinking that payback would come in the form of cold and rain - not the fires of hell!

PS - Isn't it traditionally rainy and cold on most holiday weekends before mid-July? :)

Ah, go stand in front of the open fridge. :)

The norm, according to the almanac is 64 for this time of year.

Last 4th of July it was 71 with no rain!

This has been a REALLY odd spring here. It's finally getting up to 80 but a couple of days ago it was in the 50s, which is ridiculous for late May in NC. Now I learn that the PNW is stealing my hot weather! Da noive!

Oh I am DYIN' over heah!!! My house gets NO shade, so our lovely long Northwest evenings really heat up the house. All I can say is THANK GOD that the temps drop so sharply at night. Now if I could only get some shade trees to cool the front of my house.... *pant pant pant*

JBo - Almanac shmalmanac. I know what I know. :)

TL - Sorry bout that, sugar. You can have it, really. It's all yours.

Karyl - Yep. The two things that save us - no humidity (so that when you're in the shade, it's actually cooler), and the cool evenings. I don't know, though, if I'll ever get used to the long long days. I like 'em, but it still seems SO odd to have the sun so high in the sky, still, at 7pm. Thanks for reading, by the way. :)

It's always cooler in the woods. Just think of this as the Memorial Day that actually got to go camping.

And if that doesn't work, look at the weather forecast for Austin. Wanna trade? I didn't think so.

I think you're going to be hotter than we are in Dallas. Life is not fair. It's not summer if we can't moan the whole three months about how hot it is.

The weather station nearest my home (Keyport) is telling me that it's 96 degrees at 4:30pm!! When I moved from Virginia, I asked to look at houses with central air. I was told we don't need central air in the Northwest. Hmph!!!

Eh. It doesn't last that long. Not like the loooong hottttt summers in Baltimore.

Last night we were over at our neighbors to run through the sprinkler and have dinner. Around 8 or so, a breeze went by the sky got dark and we immediately felt cooler.

Today we are hosting the sprinkler. :)

And Lora- I hear you on the weather in TX. We are going in July and I am *not* looking forward to being out on the tennis courts!

Now look what you did: cold, overcast, bleh. Glad I got some painting in yesterday...

Tut-tut; looks like rain.

She told the weather goddess her wish and it has come true:

Today the high will be 71, overcast until 11, partly sunny later in the afternoon, with a 13% chance of rain.

Happy Sunday to K! :)

If only I could believe my influence was so great. :) But I'm certainly not complaining. I'll take overcast and 70 over sunny and 90 ANY day. The Force is back in balance. Aaaaahhhh.

That said, yesterday was just fine, if a little too warm to be laying out several hundred pounds of flagstone in the sun. Sunny and 78 is really okay by me.

Ain't nothing like the weather talk to get a record number of comments on my favorite blog. I happened to have enjoyed the brief heatwave (ask me again when we suffer 90 for more than one day). But I'll be calling upon you to blog about it next time I need a change in the weather. Something's happenin' here!
